Ever since I started remembering stuff, I've always been on the dark what really differs a Catholic from a Christian. I kid not this time. Perhaps what kept me in the unknown is my reluctance to ask other people for several reasons. Reasons being they might ridicule me for my non-existent knowledge of the difference between the two . This persisted for quite a time because I had (maybe even, have) this mindset that as I age, I would be wise enough to know them. That I just have to wait. It was a literal utility of the age-old descriptor for elderly. Another reason for my neglected search for the truth was that I don't have any informant who can provide me with an answer. Either they stand from one of the extremes or perhaps a mix but still with a hint of bias for one.
When I was a kid and whenever I needed to form forms that request my religion/religious affiliation, I always write down with knobby hands 'Roman Catholic' because it's what I have been taught to do. What I have been taught to know. Maybe this mentality paved the way for the Philippines to have the largest Roman Catholic population in Asia, coming only 3rd after Brazil and Mexico. The moment our eyes began searching for that stark contrast, we have been signed under the Annuario Pontificio. Yet how many of these listed men and women practice the Faith? They have become Catholic by birth, not by practice so to speak.
I try to empower myself regarding the dilemma by surfing the Internet for answers. I have ridden the wave of new technology to search answers for questions of the old. Strings such as 'Catholic Christian differences' and 'Catholic Christian comparison table' popped into Google's good ol' search box. And as the servers try to churn for statistics, I wait in the twilight I have put myself into. Google spewed several hints but none of them would be good enough.
To close this seemingly unconnected bundles of words, I would like to verbalize my admiration for those people who study the faith of others. Some atheists even know their way around the doctrines and papal bulls than some of the practitioners of the faith. They took the time to understand the complexity of a religion and, perhaps, finding fault that led them to not believe in it. I wouldn't say they went astray or they lost their way. They are entitled to the things that they believe and I am no one who can push my values down their throats. To tell you the truth, dear Reader(s?), I myself had once considered being one during my trying times. But those were the dark days of the Past and we must prepare for the Future by doing what is right in the Present.
My eyebags are getting larger. Large enough to carry my books. I have to reset my circadian rhythm for the coming weeks ahead. Cheers to duty-a-thon! Cheers to us all! This is drowsy Paulo, signing off.
faith over religion, that is my philosophy when it comes to this. however, i would also like to know the difference between Catholics and Christians, especially in the teachings. i would appreciate it if you tell me once you find the answer to your question.
