Of Hiking and Letting Go

You let me go
and I needed a place to shout, to hide, to flee
I sought solace, peace, and tranquility
and in the mountains I found them
The exhilaration of starting at the break of dawn
equals the thrill of seeing you
Every slide down loose rocks got me falling
      but never back to you
In every meter above sea level I conquered
I strayed a meter away from you.
The cuts made by rock edges and thorny shrubs
are nothing compared to the pain you inflicted me
But still I hiked on to conquer this mountain
to overcome the pain you made me feel
The rush of the wind cleared my mind
of memories and feelings for you
The wonderful view at the top equals,
nay, is better than the view when I see you
I went down with a better perspective in life
      and a lighter heart
So I will keep hiking mountains
until I have completely let you go.

I made this poem as a 'monthsary' gift of some sort to myself and my freedom. Unbeknownst to me, I scheduled a dayhike on the very same day of my liberation. Talk about tadhana.
